City On Standby For Ike Evacuees

Hurricane Ike could be headed for Texas, and on Monday morning, Texas governor Rick Perry asked cities all over the state to prepare for evacuees, and Lubbock is on the list! The City of Lubbock lined up cots in the Coliseum when Gustav was threatening the Texas coast. Evacuees from that hurricane went to east Texas, but city officials decided to leave the cots up, in case we needed them during the remainder of the hurricane season. Mayor Tom Martin says sure enough, Monday morning, Lubbock was once-again asked to be on stand-by because the state might send Hurricane Ike evacuees our way as early as Friday. Says Martin, "It was a good idea to keep it up and then if were not needed this week, then well simply put it back up in storage and wait for next year."
