City of Tahoka Places Officer Involved in Deadly Stand-Off on Administrative Leave

"They told me that they shot him twice (in the chest) yeah blood running all out of him right over there. I seen that," said Elmer Wilson, uncle of shooting victim Rodney Moore.

Moore was killed by police in a stand-off Sunday afternoon on Avenue N and South 1st Street in Tahoka.

"All I know is he was laying on the ground when I came out," said Wilson.

Wilson, and a witness KLBK spoke with Sunday night, say police had other options than shooting Moore.

"Well if I'm gonna shoot a man can't I shoot him in the arm or foot or leg or something. Do I have to pump two bullets up in his chest part," he said.

"They had a taser gun they could have tased him they didn't have to use gun shots," said a witness, who asked to remain anonymous.

The City of Tahoka released a brief written statement this morning saying the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Wilson says he's suspicious of police actions following the shooting.

"That's where they shot him right there, and they loaded him up. And that highway patrol car it was sitting right here and then they moved it see where the front wheels stop on the highway patrol car. See the highway patrol car was back here and she got in and pulled it up here," said Wilson.

Both Wilson and the witness say they want answers.

"I just want justice for his family I mean they killed him the wrong way," said the witness.

"I just hope whatever went on people find out and get justice. That's what I hope," said Wilson.

Texas Department of Public Safety says that with the holiday, the investigation will resume on Wednesday.
