"I never saw anyone approach my vehicle," Spann said. "Or didn't see anyone outside even but I also wasn't looking for anyone either."
Carrie Spann was loading her car with Christmas presents for her kids, when it was stolen early Saturday morning.
"I had put them into the back seat of my car," Spann said. "My car was running we were approximately five feet away from the car when I heard somebody get in it and take off."
Spann said she immediately called the police but it was her brother who found her car later that evening at a local fast food restaurant.
"He had come here to feed his family," Spann said. "He doesn't live very far from this location and he had just pulled by and noticed my car."
But Spann said the gifts she bought after working five overtime shifts were gone.
"Of course I expected that all of my children's gifts would be gone," Spann said. "But I think that what was surprising to me is that I had made a decoupage board for my mother and they took that as well."
Spann said she was surprised to see the thief take things he probably won't use.
"They pretty much cleaned everything out of the vehicle," Spann said. "They took the books, the owners manual, they took the air freshener off the rearview mirror."
Police did fingerprint her car but Spann said her one hope is with the restaurant.
"This location has security cameras," Spann said. "You can view them on the outside of the building so the officer said they would be looking to get that security footage."
Spann said she understands she will probably never recover her stolen items but she hopes her story will help others be more cautious.
"I hope through this we can prevent this," Spann said. "Maybe people can be aware that even if you are outside you shouldn't leave your vehicle running even if you are close to it."
