Bars around Lubbock preparing for one of the busiest days of their year--- New Years' Eve. And even with reports of bad weather, they say they're still expecting crowds.
"New Years Eve tends to be one of the busier holidays for the bar," said Austin Gardenhire with Rain Uptown.
Gardenhire says they're prepping to ring in the New Year with a big crowd.
"We are going to be fully staffed, bringing on a few extra people making sure we can handle the hustle and bustle of New Years Eve," said Gardenhire.
Gardenhire says he's spending his day checking inventory, making sure they have enough wine, beer, and you guessed it, champagne.
"We will be doing some champagne toasts, we'll be doing some champagne specials. We'll have lots of champagne going around," he said.
"Yeah we bring in some extra champagne because that is one of the times of the year that we do sell quite a bit of champagne," said Nick Muscari, owner of Nick's Sports Bar.
Just down the street at Nick's Sports Bar they say this will be the bar's third New Years Eve and its always busy.
"Yeah its probably up there with our top 2 to 3 days of the year," said Muscari.
Muscari says he's expecting a big crowd this New Year's Eve, even though it falls on a Monday.
"I don't think so Monday shouldn't be a big deal because most people, a lot of people have off New Years day so it usually doesn't really effect what day of the week it is," said Muscari.
Gardenhire says he doesn't think the projected bad weather will hurt their business.
"No the weather seems to not really harm a lot of people when it comes to holidays. When it's just like a normal Friday or Saturday sometimes, but when it's a holiday everyone likes to celebrate," said Gardenhire.
DPS says they're prepping for these holiday crowds as well. They say they will be out in force on NYE keeping the roads safe.
