"There's always an influx of membership and personal training that increases with the New Year. A lot of New Years resolutions, people are excited about making a positive change so we always see a big increase."

Getting in shape takes time and you need to stick with it past winter to really see results.

"Typically you see about 95% of people that join a health club stop using their membership within 6 weeks of joining and that's usually due to lack of results."

Joining the gym with a friend or making plans to work out with them can help you stay on track.

"Its always good to establish a membership with a friend, you do have that initial accountability. One of the draw backs is they are your friend and so you feel a little more comfortable telling them 'Aw, I'm not going to make it today'."

Even if you don't plan on using a personal trainer all the time setting up an initial appointment with one will help teach you how to work out for your body type, and the money and time spent on the trainer can be good motivation for getting to the gym.

"It provides accountability and motivation. If you have someone you know is waiting for you to show up at the gym you're a lot more likely to show up and be there after work as opposed to just sitting on the couch and skipping out."
