Galveston Evacuates Residents, Lubbock Still Waiting

While Lubbock is in a waiting game with state officials on the status of evacuees, Galveston has decided not to wait any longer. They ordered a mandatory evacuation at noon on Thursday. Mayor Tom Matin says, with such a large area expected to be hit by the hurricane, its important for us to stay on standby, because we could receive evacuees at any time. On Thursday morning, we spoke with a former Tech student and Galveston resident, whose family packed up and left the island before the evacuation was ordered.
