Suspect Pulls Gun, Injures Officer During Tuesday Traffic Stop

An LPD officer was rushed to the hospital after being injured while trying to arrest a suspect.

Eyewitnesses say two police officers were trying to arrest a suspect near the intersection of 65th and Avenue Q around 4:00 p.m.

Police say officers tried to stop a man who ran a red light.

According to police, officers were trying to frisk the man when he pulled out a gun and started running.

Eyewitnesses tell us officers chased the suspect, caught up with him and began hitting him. Two eyewitnesses say the suspect was tazed.

One of the officers called for help over the radio, prompting officers to rush to the scene with their lights and sirens running.

Police say one of the officers injured his knee and was taken to the hospital.

After the altercation, police and a K-9 dog searched the suspect's vehicle, where they say they found drug paraphernalia.

The names of the suspect and the officer had not been released as of 5:00 p.m.
