Fresh cut Christmas trees are recycled and turned into mulch for the City of Lubbock

"We go ahead and have the opportunity for residents to bring their fresh cut Christmas trees and then they are turned into mulch. So they will be ground down in the Spring and turned into mulch."
The City of Lubbock uses the mulch from the trees around Lubbock and residents can get the extra mulch for free.
"I've used mulch before in my yard and stuff so I think it's a good thing to put it back to where we can use it in the law or garden or something."
Recycling your Christmas tree is better for the environment but it also makes you a better neighbor.
"Well residents could put their tree in the dumpster. Normally what happens is the tree is bigger than the dumpster, it could get stuck, it also does not allow your neighbors to place their trash in the dumpster so you're a nicer neighbor when you recycle your fresh cut Christmas tree."
And when you are dropping off your tree to be recycled Penny Morin says you should go ahead and gather up your holiday bottles and other recyclables to drop off as well.
"We want to encourage people to participate in our drop off recycling program and help us be better stewards to our environment."
You can drop off your tree at 1631 84th Street (84th Street & Avenue P) 24 hours a day until January 14th, then the drop off hours are Monday-Saturday 8:00 am-5:30 pm until January 31st. You can also drop off trees at 208 Municipal Drive Monday-Saturday 8:00 am-5:30 pm until January 31st. Please remove all decorations before placing the tree in the dumpster.
