"Out of no where I see eight or 10 cops now and I'm like really?
What's going on?"
Lubbock resident, Stephanie Lea, was at a red light at the
intersection of 50th and Slide when multiple police cars involved in
Wednesday afternoons carjacking chase pulled up behind her trying to
get through.
"LPD officer was behind me and was really upset because the person
wouldn't move," said Lea. "I mean I know about Lubbock EMS and stuff
and pullover, but when you're in a situation like I was I was in
earlier what exactly do you do?"
Lea was at an intersection, where the only option was to go except
through the red light.
Lea said that would have been breaking the law and she could have
caused a wreck.
"You can't turn left on red," Lea said. "So I just sat there because
I didn't want to cause another accident on top of what's already going
on."
But LPD said first and foremost to listen to what the peace officer
tells you even if it's to run a red light. If you're driving and not
at an intersection, LPD said to follow the state law and pull over.
"We ask that when any kind of emergency vehicle be it police, fire or
ambulance come behind the person just simply follow the state law and
pull over at the first available spot," said Sgt. Jonathan Stewart
with LPD.
Lea did eventually turn at the light to get out of the officers way.
She said she is just happy that she and her family are safe being so
close to the action.
"The, I guess 'suspect', was in the vehicle and like came through,"
said Lea. "Came within inches. I'm surprised we didn't have a wreck
on top of this story."
