Playa Lakes Overflowing

By: Kristen Kennedy
Updated: September 12, 2008
Thursdays downpour is leaving some residents with more to worry about than just driving in the rain. Several homes throughout the city are dealing with floodwater on their driveways, porches, even inside their houses. Residents close to Maxey Park are cleaning up after the playa lake close to their neighborhood overflowed, leaving one street impassable. Some people spent the night with friends and family who live on higher ground, hoping todays weather doesnt add to the floodwater. "We have about four or five inches of water up on the house, I dont know how much waters up in the house. But last night when we left we decided we probably better get out of there because it was pretty deep," says Andrew Sides, a resident next to Maxey Park. The city is asking everyone to be cautious when youre out on the roads. Barricades on the roads mean theres flood water straight ahead, so avoid blocked roads and take extra time getting to your destination.
