"Basically when you're out there in the morning and it's 10 below or 20 below or whatever it is that's not the time to be thinking about maintenance, because you're thinking about if it's going to start and that's not the time. You should be thinking about it beforehand."

Your car needs special care in the winter with freezing Lubbock temperatures making even your antifreeze need a boost.

"Make sure that the antifreeze is correct, especially on one of these below zero mornings because if they are frozen they won't start and if they do start they will burn up. With this wind chill factor we have been having ten below is not going to cut it, its not safe for it, really needs to be 20 or 25 below."

The car care basics like getting your oil changed are especially important when the temperature drops.

"If they don't change the oil and they get in these cold cars and start them up and they see it's low on oil, the oil is dirty, has been used up it's really bad on the motors. It's unsafe, It does damage to them."

Check your tire tread and brakes to make sure the ice won't keep you from being able to stop your car and pay attention to warning signs your car may be sending you about other problems as well.

"Was complaining about it sounding funny when he started it on a cold morning. We did some checks on it, found the battery was undercharged, not very good, so we replaced it and took care of that problem. If he had left it alone he'd probably be stranded one morning."

If you pay attention and take your car in for the proper tune up Mark Lynch at McWhorter Tire said you shouldn't have any problems.

"When you go out in the morning your car will start and will get you to work back and forth."
