The wreck happened around 6:30 Wednesday night and caused a major slowdown for eastbound drivers and traffic was diverted for several hours.
DPS Troopers remained on scene more than four hours after the accident, trying to piece together what caused the wreck.
So far, troopers say it appears the driver of a GMS pickup rolled into the path of a Dodge minivan, which was driving east on Highway 84.
The speed limit on that section of the highway is 70 mph.
The driver of the pickup truck, who was revived multiple times on scene, had to be airlifted to UMC. He was listed in critical condition as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Passengers in the minivan included an 11-year-old boy, who was transported to UMC with non-life threatening injuries.
None of the victims had been identified as of late Wednesday night.
