Fatal Car-Pedestrian Accident at 50th & Avenue Q

Police are investigating a fatal accident at 50th and Avenue Q.
The accident happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Preliminary reports say a Ford F-150 hit 91 year old Fausto Martinez Camacho in a wheel chair. He was attempting to cross Avenue Q, when the was hit by the truck heading southbound.
According to the accident investigation report, the truck was headed southbound on Avenue Q, when Camacho was heading east across Avenue Q, leaving the United parking lot. The report says the driver did not see Camacho until he had entered the left lane where the truck was driving.
Camacho was thrown from his wheelchair, and was pronounced dead on the scene by Lubbock EMS.
Some witnesses did try to resuscitate Camacho on scene. Chris Wilson was one of the witnesses who tried to help. "It's horrible, I mean nothing really to explain to it, I mean it's just, you can't do nothing about it, it hurts," said Wilson.
Wilson is trained in CPR and was happy to see so many people try to help Camacho after he was hit. "It's awesome, to see that people actually care to actually lend a hand, even though they don't know the person, it shows sympathy and respect," said Wilson.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the truck yet, although police were working Tuesday to find out if that would change.
Javier Castendea was in a nearby parking lot when the accident happened, and saw the whole thing. "It's an unfortunate incident, but hopefully people will use this to just think and slow down a little bit," said Castendea.
