Victims of Massive Flooding Cleaning Up

By: Lisa Carr
Updated: September 16, 2008
Just days after nearly eight inches of rain fell on Lubbock, many folks spent today cleaning up the mess the flooding left behind.
We introduced you to the Arguelles family Thursday night and we wanted to check in with them again. The massive rain not only created a lake around their East Lubbock home.  The water also flowed right into their house so, the family spent the weekend clearing inches of mud off the front porch and raking piles of debris out of the yard.   Adela Arguelles wishes city and county officials had been able to offer more help.

She says, "Yeah, it's bad when they say they're gonna come back and bring more sandbags then they use the ones we have and they didn't bring none.  I mean, why did they come, if they didn't have any sandbags you know they should have come prepared to help us out."

City workers did hand out thousands of sandbags Thursday night, but ran out before they were able to reach everybody in trouble. The Arguelles family says they're hoping tax money will eventually be put toward improving the drainage system in East Lubbock.
