Tina Aguirre said Thursday she was still holding out hope for 2 year old daugther, Leah, to return home safely.

Aguirre said she and the family were planning to start a fund to raise money to look for Leah Thursday before they heard the news that Leah's body had been found.

"It would break my heart, I would go crazy," Aguirre said when asked if the body police found Thursday was her daughter.

Thursday, Matilda Almaraz was arrested and charged with the murder of Leah.  According to Crosbyton Police, they believe Almaraz was the last person to see Leah. "We know Matilda was the last person to see the baby," said Greg Parrott, Chief of Crosbyton Police.

Aguirre said she knew something was wrong when she tried to call Almaraz to see if she could do something for Leah's birthday. " I called her on the 5th, the day before her birthday to see if I could see her so I could give her her present on her birthday because she was going to be two," said Aguirre. "And then she never answered the phone, so I knew that something was going on."

According to Chief Parrott, while Almaraz and Aguirre knew each other, they did not know each other well. "She was a friend of a friend she met on Facebook," Chief Parrott.

Originally, Almaraz told Police that Leah had been taken by a man named Miguel who was impersonating a CPS worker.  "We don't know how much of the story she told us was true," said Chief Parrott.

Family and friends were gathering at her home in Slaton to comfort her and be together.  Aguirre also said Leah's father was on his way from Oklahoma to be with everyone during this time.
