Updated: January 14, 2013

Lewisville police confirm a shooting inside Vista Ridge Mall late Monday afternoon apparently began as a domestic dispute.

A police spokesman told News 8 that officers were summoned after a man confronted an employee of a store near the Kay Jewelers on the lower level of the shopping center.

Mall security officers were first to arrive, and as they began escorting the unruly man outside, he produced a weapon and shot himself.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment; his condition was unavilable. No one else was injured in the gunfire.

Crime scene tape surrounded the shooting location as police gathered more information about what led to the shooting.

Vista Ridge Mall is just north of Highway 121 on Interstate 35E, 18 miles northwest of downtown Dallas.
