Since then, the numbers have declined. The projected number for 2012 was is under 500,000 boardings. Each year, the airline in Lubbock with the most boardings was Southwest Airlines, something that James Loomis, Director of the Preston Smith Airport, is not surprised by.
"It's bad that passenger count is down at this airport, but to me it's not alarming yet," said Loomis.
Loomis said that's the standard in markets the size of Lubbock. American Eagle was the second most used airline.
"Some people blame the price, others say it's difficult to fly now because I don't want to go through TSA, well actually, it's pretty easy to do, at an airport our size," said Loomis.
Loomis, though, said he's not concerned by the numbers. He said it's always cyclical, and eventually more people will fly again.
"There's really nothing we can do, expect those people who drive, to fly," said Loomis.
