Spring Race to be Named in Honor of Local Hero

A local running club is honoring a hometown hero ten years after his sudden death.
Local event organizer West Texas Enduranced announced Wednesday they would name their local half marathon and 5k rase after Willie Mcool.
The Willie McCool Memorial Half Marathon is scheduled to take place April 6th at the Silent Wings Museum.
McCool and his crew died in February 2003 when the Space Shuttle Columbia broke apart during re-entry into the atmosphere.
Event organizers say they hope naming the race in honor of McCool, who was an avid runner, will inspire other runners.
