Lamb County District Attorney Scott Say confirmed the two were suspended after an internal investigation conducted by the Littlefield Police Department was presented to his office.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
Littlefield Mayor Shirley Mann confirmed to KAMC Investigates both men were suspended late last week. Mann declined to comment on further on the matter.
City Manager Mike Arismendez said Cantu submitted his resignation Thursday morning and was hired for a new city position the same day.
Cantu has been named the administrator for the Bill Clayton Detention Center, a prison owned by the City of Littlefield that has sat empty for years.
KAMC Investigates has learned Cantu has just five months left before he is eligible for retirement.
Neither Arismendez, Mann nor any member of the Littlefield City Council were available for comment Friday.
