About thirty Lubbock Democrats gathered together this morning to watch President Obama's second inauguration.

"We can gather together, watch the inauguration, watch the speech and celebrate being Democrats," said Grace Rogers, a longtime Democrat, "It showed maturity of the American people that they reelected Obama, even though its been a difficult presidency."

"We are all fired up to support president Obama for the next four years," said Lubbock Democratic Party Chair Kenny Ketner.

Ketner organized the watch party so that people who worked for Obama's re-election could watch his official swearing in, together.

"Lubbock supporters of president Obama worked very hard in November and we saw that pay off on election night and of course we celebrated big then too but it's nice to see the pomp and circumstance of the swearing in ceremony," said Ketner.

"Even with the second inauguration its important to show the process of democracy still works and we respect the result and get to work for the people," he said.

Ketner says now that the inauguration is over, the Lubbock Democratic Party will turn their sights to more local issues.

"We are ready for a potentially big fight on schools, public school funding and the voucher issue so we will be paying attention to Austin and advocating for our issues there," said Ketner.
