In a press conference Tuesday morning, the Lubbock-based Nurturing Center released their plans to hold a memorial on Thursday, January 24th, to mark the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

"You are invited to bring either a candle, floral bouquet, a stuffed animal, a toy, a bouquet of balloons, a card, or a poster to memorialize the babies killed by abortion and to express your sorrow over the wholesale destruction of human life," said Sandy Cisneros, Board Member at the Nurturing Center.

The Nurturing Center will hold the memorial rally outside the neighboring Planned Parenthood office.

"In these 40 years, this exercise of raw judicial power, has allowed and encouraged the massacre of more than 50 million unborn babies - including more than 40,000 right here in Lubbock at the Planned Parenthood Women's Health Center," said Cisneros.

Nurturing Center Executive Director Lawrence D'Souza says they already hold events most Thursdays, since abortions are performed on those days.

"Its technically not a protest we like to describe it as personal prayer vigil. Personal counseling that is what we offer," said D'Souza.

D'Souza says their neighboring location helps the Nurturing Center reach patients.

"This is a unique location where clients have come into us inadvertently seeking an abortion and we were able to provide the real alternative," said D'Souza.

Planned Parenthood of Lubbock declined to go on camera, but they said they do not have plans to mark this anniversary. They say people can protest, but they will still provide their services.

The Nurturing Center is also holding a mass tonight at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 7:00 to mark the anniversary.
