Cargill Employees Search for Work at Plainview Job Fair

"It was a shock and it got crazier after that," Muniz said.
Last Thursday started out as a normal day for Johnny Muniz--before he heard the announcement that the company he works for, Cargill, will be closing it's doors February 1st.
"I am trying to find a job before I go under on my bills and stuff," Muniz said.
Now Muniz is filling out applications at a Plainview job fair, searching for a way to support himself.
"I just got to do what I got to do," Muniz said. "I just can't sit at home and do nothing. I'm not that kind of a person."
Muniz said the whole city is being affected.
He said competition may force him to leave Hale county.
"It doesn't matter if it is close by I am willing to relocate," Muniz said. "Just anything that I can be happy and be at for a long time."
Employees at the Cargill plant said they can not wait until the factory is closed before finding new work.
Luckily for them there are businesses all over the South Plains willing to help.
"Well Cargill is one of our shippers that we've hauled for many many years out of this plant," Stedham said. "We heard about this situation and thought wed come and try to help as much as we could."
Danny Stedham with FFE Trucking said his company is even willing to train drivers if it will help them get a job.
"Yes that's why I am here," Stedham said. "We want to get people started as soon as they are ready. We are hoping that anyone who wants to get a CDL comes and looks us up because we're here to help if we can. "
Muniz said he is trying to stay positive...and knowing that people are willing to help makes it a little easier.
"Things happen and we just have to keep going you know," Muniz said.
