Experts Weigh In on Keeping Your Social Media Accounts Safe

On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Randy Neugebauer's Twitter account was hacked, and the Congressman had sent out a tweet about weight loss tips with a link.
The hacked tweet has since been removed from the page.
The hack, however, shows hackers can target anyone online. According to Allison Matherly, Social Media Coordinator at Texas Tech University, she constantly sees hacked messages on Twitter.
Matherly is in charge of two Twitter accounts, as well as LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, among others. She said because she sees how often these spam messages occur, she knows it's important to keep an eye on their sites.
One of her tips is to not change your password to the word password, constantly change your passwords, and don't use the same passwords for multiple accounts.
When it comes to looking at links others send you, be cautious of where the link will send you, and don't just put in your passwords in on a new site, but always make sure you are only putting in your password on the official site.
