The Lubbock-Cooper Board of Trustees and administration are pleased to announce the hiring of a new head football coach, Max Kattwinkel.  This was unanimously decided last night at the Board's regular meeting.
Coach Kattwinkel has been serving as the high school's offensive coordinator and girl's track coach, having been with the district for six years, with a total of 22 years in education.   He has also coached at Franklin, Petersburg, Shallowater, and Post prior to coming to Lubbock-Cooper.  Kattwinkel also teaches Spanish at the high school.
After the promotion of John Windham to full-time Athletic Director, a search committee was formed and charged with finding the best person to be at the reigns of the football program at Lubbock-Cooper High School.  The committee accepted applications from 74 candidates, both internally and externally.  Through the elimination process, interviews were then conducted, and the top four candidates were presented to the Board.  "Coach Katt," as he is commonly known, was clearly the top choice of the committee and the Board.
"I am very thankful for this opportunity to lead our football program into the future.  The faith that our administration and school board has shown in me will not be taken lightly; but this is really not about me.  This is about our community, our coaching staff and faculty, and our kids.  I am very excited and blessed to be a part of the Lubbock-Cooper family," said Coach Kattwinkel.
Kattwinkel is married to Meg, a teacher at Lubbock-Cooper Middle School, and they have two sons, Keenan, 6, and Carter, 2.  Max's daughter, Caitlin, 20, attends West Texas A&M in Canyon.
