Texas Tech scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on to its lead while defeating its Alumni with a 5-4 victory on Saturday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders are now 4-0 all-time against its alums dating back to 2010. This year's alumni team was made up of numerous big leaguers, Major League Baseball draft picks and former Tech All-Americans.

Texas Tech scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning on sophomore Bryant Burleson's RBI single through the right side and then scored the eventual game-winning run in the following at-bat with sophomore Blake Bass' run-scoring single through the left side.

Burleson led the Red Raiders at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Bass was the only other Tech player to post a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Junior left-handed pitcher Jonny Drozd earned the win for Tech pitching the final two innings while allowing zero earned runs on just two base hits.

Alumni right-handed pitcher Miles Morgan (2006-2009) took the loss allowing two runs in one inning of work while allowing four base hits.

The Alumni took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with four walks and a sacrifice fly by former Red Raider catcher Bo Altobelli (2010-2012).

The Red Raiders erased several of the Alumni's scoring opportunities with three ground ball double plays turned by shortstop Tim Proudfoot and second baseman Bryant Burleson while Tech's defense had four double plays on the afternoon.

Tech evened the score at 2-2 in the second inning with catcher Mason Randolph hitting a leadoff triple to left field and then scoring on freshman Jarrard Poteete's RBI double to left field. Tech's other run in the second came off an error while third baseman Jake Barrios reached base on a dropped fly ball in center field.

The Alumni tied the game, 3-3, on Reid Redman's (2011-2012) groundout in the eighth inning before the Red Raiders pushed two runs across in the bottom of the eighth.

Leading the way for the Alumni were right fielder and Red Raider All-American Jamodrick McGruder (2010-2012) going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, Altobelli (1-for-3, RBI), former big leaguer Mike Humphreys (1985-1988) (2-for-4) and former All-American Saul Bustos (1-for-4) who made several highlight plays at second base.
