More Than 1,000 Without Power After Overnight Car Accident

Power is out for an estimated 1800 Lubbock Power & Light customers after a SUV hit a Central Lubbock transformer overnight.
The accident happened around 2:30 Wednesday morning, near 38th and Joliet.
We're told the driver of the vehicle was not at the scene of the accident when first responders arrived.
According to a witness, the SUV took out a fire hydrant, along with the transformer.
Lubbock Power & Light's website indicated an estimated 1800 customers were without power around 3:30 a.m.
Crews indicated it could take up to five hours to fully restore the electricity.
Lubbock police officers are directing traffic in the area.
