Texas Tech softball coach Shanon Hays announced Tuesday that former Red Raider soccer standout Tiffini Smith has joined the program and will be in uniform for this weekend's season-opening Sportco Kick-Off Classic.

Smith, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, wrapped her four-year career on the Texas Tech soccer team this fall, helping lead the Red Raiders to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

"We are really excited to add an athlete like Tiffini Smith to our roster," Hays said. "She will provide top-end speed for us on the base paths that will really keep our opponents on their toes. We are looking forward to seeing what she can do."

Smith, who has two years of softball eligibility remaining, was a mainstay in Tom Stone's soccer lineup the past four years as she made 82 appearances in the midfield including 71 starts.

She compiled six goals and eight assists to go along with 134 shot attempts during that time en route to finishing tied for seventh in Tech history for career assists and eighth all-time for career shot attempts.

Smith will likely make her first appearance in a Red Raider uniform this weekend at the Sportco Kick-Off Classic held in Las Vegas, Nev. Tech opens the three-day event with a Friday doubleheader against Central Florida and No. 18 Louisville at Eller Media Stadium.
