LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech improved to 2-0 on the season with a 10-1 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders were guided by a solid start from junior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor who made his Tech debut pitching six innings with four strikeouts allowing just one run on five hits in the win.

For the second straight game the Red Raiders had a freshman make his collegiate debut by pitching three innings to record a save while right-handed pitcher Matt Custred struck out four and allowed one hit in three scoreless frames.

Tech scored early and often with four runs in the first inning - highlighted by junior right fielder Devon Conley's three-run inside-the-park home run to center field. Conley went 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBI.

The Red Raiders extended their lead to 8-0 with a two-run double from freshman catcher Jarrard Poteete and with a two-run single up the middle by freshman outfielder Zach Davis.

Taylor retired 11 of his first 13 batters faced and escaped two jams with runners in scoring position in both the fourth and sixth innings.

The Red Raiders also scored a run in the fifth inning and Conley added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

Freshman first baseman Eric Gutierrez went 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and an RBI while Poteete had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Tech will play Saturday evening against BYU at 6 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
