Lubbock may have gotten some rain today, but not enough to get rid of all that West Texas pollen, and allergists said lately they've been seeing patients complain about their allergies.
Doctors in town said folks' allergies are flaring up because of the fluctuating temperatures, Lubbock's ever-blowing wind and the West Texas drought.
They said with the lack of rain, there's no way to suppress the blowing pollen and dust.
Although allergy season doesn't technically start until March, doctors said the pollen, especially cedar and juniper is already causing watery eyes and stuffy noses.
"I have seen a spike in tree pollen levels during this past week so I think spring is certainly coming around the corner," said Dr. Garcia with Pediatric Associates. "Showering and shampooing after prolonged outdoor exposure is important. Stay indoors during high pollen times which is usually early in the morning. Keep windows closed in bedrooms and in their cars."
Garcia said symptoms will get even worse in the next few weeks as we enter into allergy season, but some doctors said there is hope in sight.
Once summer comes around some folk's allergies should begin clearing up because the trees, grass and flowers will all be finished blooming and the wind will die down.
