Texas Tech students, alumni and staff gathered at the State Capitol in Austin on Wednesday to lobby lawmakers.

Several hundred people packed into a room at the Capitol early Wednesday to get marching orders for the day: where to be, who to talk to and what to say.

The goal: to convince lawmakers Texas Tech needs more money and resources to continue to grow.

Tech Chancellor Kent Hance led the group, pointing out the university received about $67 million less this biennium, despite growing its student population by 2,000 people.

Throughout the day, new football coach Kliff Kingsbury made his way around the Capitol, meeting with lawmakers, shaking hands and talking up Texas Tech.

The day concluded with students, alumni and staff visiting each lawmaker's office to drop off a gift and talk one-on-one about issues facing the university.
