Lubbock Police has confirmed that two young men ages 21 and 22 died in a one vehicle rollover early Sunday morning.

22-year-old Brian Jeffries was driving the vehicle and his front passenger was 21-year-old Spencer Brown. Both are said to be students at Texas Tech and brothers in a fraternity.

The accident occurred on the 1500 block of Kent St near north Avenue Q. LPD says excessive speed was the cause of the accident.

Neighbor Tanji Obenhaus says she thinks the railroad crossing may have been a factor in the fatal car accident.

"If you are not familiar with the road it has the railroad tracks in here and it has a pretty uphill, and if you are going across that at a high rate of speed you can very easily lose control," said Obenhaus.

Obenhaus says her husband's uncle works in wells and was alerted that one had lost power---that's when he stumbled upon the accident.

"He actually walked up on the scene and said it was two young guys and one had been ejected and one was still in the vehicle and the car was pretty mangled," said Obenhaus.

Police believe the car may have been traveling up to 80 miles per hour, when it went over an elevated railroad track that sent the vehicle into the air, before hitting two telephone poles.
