Monday's winter weather lead to more people having to head to Covenant ER for treatment of winter weather related accidents.

Covenant ER said they are just about as busy as usual for Monday and Tuesday, which are typically two of their busiest days of the week.

What they are treating, however, changed after Monday's storm.

Tuesday morning, Dr. Ryan Lewis said he saw an increase in car accident patients, as well as fall patients.

Where the injuries of those who fell depends on the age, said Dr. Lewis.  The younger patients he saw who fell typically have more hands and arm injuries from trying to brace themselves.  Elderly patients tended to have injuries in the hip area.

A few patients Dr. Lewis saw had head injuries, which he said was the worst of the fall patients he dealt with.

"We definitely see more slips, falls, muscular-skeletal type injuries," said Dr. Lewis. "As far as our numbers, it's tough to say, because we're always busy this time of year, but the types of injuries tend to shift based on the weather patterns."

Dr. Lewis encourages people to stay inside if possible, especially during the morning hours when there is the most ice from overnight.
