The Whitharral girls basketball team played in the 1A Division 2 State Championship game tonight down in Austin.

Whitharral hoped their third straight trip was finally the charm to bring home that state title.

In the second, Whitharral poured it on as Maci Scott found a cutting Debrah Albus for the lay-in Whitharral the nine-point lead.

But Saltillo showed signs of life, Kendall Bain knocked down a three of her own, Saltillo cut it to 21-14 at the half.

Just like last night, the Lady Panthers started the third strong with the three-ball by Kalicia McCoy.

But Saltillo would respond in the form of Victoria Stretcher the bucket and the foul. After the free throw the lead was just two for Whitharral at 25-23.

Heading into the fourth they fed their senior Taylor Moore had the up and under to stretch the lead back to five.

Later on the fast break, its Mia Ochoa, another senior with the nice move to the basket, putting this one out of reach and Whitharral is your 2013 state champs, winning 45-36.
