In a matter of 30 minutes, more than 20 cars rolled through the stop sign at Itasca and Salem with out making a complete stop.

For residents in the neighborhood they said its become dangerous and something needs to be done.

"We live here," said one concerned neighbor.

Residents in northwest Lubbock said car after car, drivers are ignoring the stop sign and speeding through there neighborhood.

One driver even told KLBK he wasn't aware of the stop sign.

"You hit a mailbox, yeah that's a mailbox, but that could have been someones kid, someones grandmother, you never know."

Since construction has started to expand North Loop 289 the residents in this neighborhood said their streets have been crowded with careless drivers who are having to detour because of the construction.

"Slow down, pay attention to your speed, watch the stop signs."

The neighborhood has called city council to have something done about the problem.

"I understand you are in a hurry, you are getting off work, you're late picking up your kid, I understand everybody has their issues, just take the time and be aware."

When we called, they said LPD is looking to find a solution.

Councilman Victor Hernandez said some options are patrolling the area more closely or adding a radar speed sign for people to slow down and stop.

"I live here please slow down," pleaded one of the residents.
