It took three fire departments to work together to put out the blazing fire that engulfed an entire home in Shallowater.  One neighbor tried to get to the two people living inside before crews arrived, but it all happened so fast and the fire was just too fierce.

"I just came out here and tried to help but there was nothing i could do," said Mathew Flores, a one of the neighbors of the two victims.

Flores said by the time he woke up and saw what was happening his neighbors entire house was up in flames.

"I come running out here and there was a guy already out here me and him met up and we didn't know what to do we were just stunned by what was going on."

But that shock quickly turned into instinct as flores rushed towards the house to try to save the two trapped inside.

"We didn't hear nobody inside I went in the back of the trailer and like kind of broke out a window and yelled in there see if anybody was in there. Nobody was responding."

When Flores saw the fire was spreading to the car outside he ran to warn other neighbors to get out of their homes.

"I just tried to keep everybody away from it and stay back because that car might have blew up, who knows."

Flores said the woman and her four-year-old son had just moved in last week and were still settling in.

"It's sad to see that especially when lives are lost and that's bad but I try to help as much as I can."

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, but Flores did say that they were having a barbeque outside earlier in the day. A state fire marshall is still investigating. Keep checking everythinglubbock.com for more details.
