Tech Players Affected

The loss of Tech hockey could affect many folks across the Hub City.  But one team member in particular stands to lose a lot.  This weekend Tech took the ice to play the University of Oklahoma.  For Jordan Novak, it was a game against his former teammates. Ones he traded to play hockey here at Texas Tech.

When Novak transferred here, he lost several credit hours.  And with OU being out-of-state tuition for him, that's also thousands of dollars.  And he left behind a team that had become his brothers.  Now he's made the transition to Tech hockey, formed a new band of brothers,  but  now... even those teammates could be disbanded.

Novak isn't alone either – four guys on the team came all the way from Canada. Novak says one freshman came down here from British Columbia only to play the sport. Upon hearing the news that hockey -- as well as other ice events hosted in the coliseum -- could soon end, several team members are now looking elsewhere to follow the game.

“Most everyone on the team wants to transfer to a different school if there's no hockey.  So that's 17, 18 guys that would be leaving, I would do anything to play hockey. I mean I don't want it to be that way, I like it here, I’d like to stay, but unfortunate events have happened." said Novak. After Monday's obvious plea for the team to stay, city council has agreed to put this back on the agenda for October 9th.
