An overnight accident at the intersection of Avenue Q and 8th St. sent four people to the hospital, including three with critical injuries.

The crash happened around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a silver car heading east on 8th St. failed to stop for a stop sign and slammed into a blue pickup truck heading south on Avenue Q.

The pickup spun around in the middle of the road, while the car went across the intersection, hitting a car parked in the Holiday Inn parking lot before flipping over two other parked cars and landing on its side.

One person in the car was ejected and another was trapped inside before firefighters were able to cut him out with the jaws of life.

A female passenger in the truck was ejected and her husband sustained moderate injuries, police said.

All four people were taken to the hospital, three with critical injuries. Police said everyone was expected to survive as of early Tuesday morning.

Police did not have the names nor ages of any of the four victims as of early Tuesday morning.

LPD accident investigators remained on scene piecing together the massive debris field for hours after the crash, leaving Avenue Q blocked off in that area.

As police and emergency crews worked, debris from the accident littered the road and nearby sidewalks, including a tire, ladder and a bottle of apple juice.

One employee at the Holiday Inn located at that intersection said she was getting ready to leave work when a man ran into the hotel yelling for help, saying people were going to die.

Other hotel guests stood in the parking lot taking in the scene, with dozens of emergency workers creating a sea of flashing red and blue emergency lights.
