A man called police just after 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon to report what he thought was a body.

The area is at the north side of the park just south of the softball fields.

Crime scene tape has been put up around the scene and LPD's evidence van was dispatched to the area.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Stewart gave few specifics Wednesday night but said it appeared the body had been there "for a while," but gave no indication if that meant days, weeks or months.

Detectives worked into the night, searching for clues on the hillside where the body was found. The mobile command post was brought to the scene.

The crime scene remained set up overnight and detectives will continue their work Thursday.
