Tech Gets First Shutout Win Over Texas In Austin Since '91

Texas Tech shutout Texas 1-0 in both team's Big 12 Conference opener on tonight at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin in front of 6,550 fans.

Texas Tech shuts out Texas in Austin for the first time since 1991 (which was also a 1-0 win).The shutout is the sixth of the year for Texas Tech.The Red Raiders win their first conference series opener over the Longhorns since 1994.

Texas Tech sophomore starting pitcher Dominic Moreno wins his Big 12 debut with seven shutout innings allowing four hits with two strikeouts and didn't allow a walk.

Texas Tech freshman designated hitter Jarrard Poteete hit his first career home run - a solo shot in the seventh inning - over the right-field wall for the game's only run

Texas Tech senior right-handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen earned his second save of the season pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

In the ninth, Texas started the inning with back-to-back singles - first a single to center field and then an infield single on a bunt... a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third base with one out. McCrummen then struck out catcher Jacob Felts on a 1-2 pitch and ended the game with a weak grounder to second baseman Bryant Burleson.

Texas Tech and Texas will continue its Big 12 series on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Red Raiders will send RHP Trey Masek (3-0, 0.00 ERA, 34 SO) to the mound while Texas will start LHP Dillon Peters (1-1, 2.28 ERA, 13 SO).
