Gun stores are seeing that talk in Congress has a big impact on sales. But it's not the semi-automatic rifles that are going fast.

It's the small, easy to handle, female friendly guns that people are going crazy for.

Representatives of local gun stores it's a result of the environment we live in today. They said people just want the chance to defend themselves.

Since last June gun stores here in Lubbock said they've had an unusual amount of customers; and they're not you're typical gun fanatics but rather you're average Joe and women.

People are flocking stores for concealed carry weapons, not semi automatic rifles.

Gun owners said they've had more people come in for training to get their CHL license than ever before.

"Right now the most popular guns that are flying off the shelves are concealed carry weapons and small pocket guns," said Steve Burns, one of the owners at LG Tactical. "Espesially in 380 caliber, 9 millimeter caliber, and 38 special caliber."

He said that the small guns are the biggest in demand.

"All of those have been the old standbys for years. It's just now that everyone, especially women, are starting to arms themselves and get licensed and trained to properly defend themselves."

Local gun store owners say that some of the popular concealed carry weapons are on backorder for months and possibly even years.
