Lubbockites Race for a Cure

Thousands of people in the Hub City raced for a cure for breast cancer Saturday. Downtown Lubbock was a sea of pink in support of breast cancer survivors and in memory of loved ones lost. Seven thousand people participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. To many survivors, this race is a celebration of their strength and a way to support one another.
"When you're first diagnosed with cancer it's a shock. And then it's a reality. And to know that there are so many people out here that are going through the same thing and to come out here it swells my heart with pride," says breast cancer survivor Paula Martinez.
The Komen Lubbock affiliate has raised more than two million dollars in the past and will use Saturday's proceeds to continue to fund early detection education.
