More Than A Dozen Dogs Poisoned in Whiteface

"I don't need no more dogs of mine disappearing," said Anita Montanez.

In the small town of Whiteface residents say there are more dogs than people, which is why  they're on edge after a string of dogs have turned up dead.

"Several dogs have disappeared, but no one knows who is doing it," said Montanez.

Her dog is one of the 14 dogs who has recently been poisoned.

"He started having like a lot of diarrhea and a lot of vomit and got really weak."

Symptoms that many dog owners around town were seeing right before their pets died.

Montanez said her Siberian Husk was a young and active dog, so when he died she was shocked and knew something wasn't right.

"In the back of the yard there was a round puddle like they feed him something," she said.

The same thing she said her sister saw after her dog died too.

"As of right now we dont have a clue of who is doing it," said Bo Jennings, a concerned citizen who had a neighbor with two dogs that were poisoned.

Speculation around the small town has folks asking who would do this, but the city decided to send off two dogs to test what was killing the pets.

"It'll kill a child quicker than it'll kill a dog," said Jennings as he talked about what was found in the two dogs stomachs and livers, temic--- a poison farmers use to kill gophers, prairie dogs and coyotes.

"It's not good because they wouldn't like us to do something to their animals," said Montanez.

Now many pet owners like her are keeping a closer eye on their pets.

"I keep mine very well locked up and put things on the door so they can't sniff out."

And their community.

"I just hope they get whoever it is, because it's very unfair to the animals."

The problem has gotten so bad around town, one dog owner has even put up reward money to catch whoever is poisoning the town's dogs.
