Lubbock County now has its first confirmed case of West Nile Virus. The virus season for West Nile had a late start, but so far has been very mild. The Health Department says this first case was found in the north part of the county. Vector Control, the group responsible for spraying for mosquitos, has been busy testing all of Lubbock's playa lakes to see if any mosquitos test positive for West Nile.

"They test pools of water like lake water and playa lakes. They get a test from those and test those mosquitos and they have had no positive mosquitos for West Nile," says Public Health Coordinator Beckie Brawley.

Symptoms of West Nile are very similar to symptoms you'd get from the flu. If you're running a high fever and know you've been bitten recently by many mosquitos, see your physician. They can run a blood test to determine if you have West Nile and then treat your symptoms.
