Slaton Shelter Puts New Policies In Place

Slaton's animal shelter is days away from putting policies in place that will make the adoption process a lot smoother. Police Chief Royce Goodson met with city commissioners Tuesday to review new policies. The adoption fee will now be sixty dollars, and that fee will include spaying or neutering. If animals come into the shelter with visible ID tags, they'll be held longer than other dogs or cats, giving owners the chance to reclaim them.
"We just ask for everyone just to give us a little bit of time to get this in place. It's not going to happen overnight, it's going to take some process," says Slaton Mayor Laura Lynn Wilson.
Mayor Wilson is also asking potential volunteers to hold off for a few weeks. As soon as they get their new policies in place they'll be more than happy to accept shelter volunteers to work with the animals.
