In West Lubbock, an overnight shooting leaves one man dead and the trigger man in custody facing murder charges. Police say 25 year old Steven Torres shot 24 year old Daniel Green for backing into his truck in a convenience store parking lot. Police say it happened around 2:30 Thursday morning at the Town and Country at 19th and Milwaukee. Steven Torres is in custody and faces up to 99 years in prison on first degree murder charges -- all because of a minor accident in this parking lot.

Police say Daniel Green tried to do the right thing after backing into Steven Torres' truck and breaking his tail light. But the call came in that shots had been fired near 24th Street and the loop. Police say after the collision, Torres pulled out a gun and fired it at green.

Sgt. Jim Pachall, Lubbock PD: "Our suspect was so agitated with the traffic accident, he couldn't be reasoned with, and that's when the shot was fired."

Green then fled the scene, with Torres following. That's when police say a bullet went through the back window, hitting Green, and causing him to crash into a pole. EMS pronounced him dead shortly after. Torres fled the scene, but is now in police custody. He could be charged with first-degree murder.

Sgt. Pachall: "For anybody to act out the way he did, is just uncalled for."

Torres now faces up to 99 years in prison, for killing a man that those who knew him say will be missed immensely...

Both as a friend and as a gifted musician.

Mack Bibb, Coronado High Band Director: "He had tremendous musical ability tremendous work ethic anything you'd ask of him he'd do."

Bibb says the potential within Green is a loss to the music community.

Mack Bibb: "The thing that we're going to miss is that he's denied the chance to do that and that's the really sad part is that such a talent is going to be unable to be used."
