With the economy hurting, the number of homeless people here in Lubbock is rising. Saturday night, community members are coming together to bring awareness of the growing problem, and what we can do to help.
Lubbock's homeless population has soared to more than 250. They can spend their waking hours in a day shelter, but at night they have nowhere to go. Many sleep outside Mahon Library, and with winter almost here, community organizations are seeking not only a warm place for the homeless to spend their nights but warm hearts to help out with the effort. They're asking you to come out to the library to pray and spend a night alongside the homeless.
Says Carpenter's Church minister Chad Wheeler, "I hope that in doing so, our experience, and our feeling from that experience, will keep us from ignoring this situation ever again."
