Lubbock is one step closer to pinning down a prime location for the new animal shelter. The Animal Shelter Advisory Board and Board of Health met with council members Thursday to present their 'Top Ten locations for the new animal shelter. Number one on each board's list? McAlister Park. They say the park is accessible to high traffic numbers, and because the city owns the land they wouldn't have to spend any money buying new property.
"We really didn't want to put it in a park area where a lot of people were around it there all the time or in a neighborhood with a lot of residents around the area. Because they did have concerns about that," says Animal Shelter Advisory Board Chair Larry Phillippe.
The site of former Graham Central Station was also high on the board's list. City council will discuss the top picks in an executive session in the coming weeks.
