Lubbock Firefighters Hold Watch Party

There are those folks who never get the chance to watch the Red Raiders in person because they're busy keeping us safe.  So some Lubbock firefighters who had their own watch party of the game since they had to be ready to respond to calls.

Paul Fillman has been a Lubbock firefighter for twenty years.  This year, as Texas Tech football breaks records every game, Fillman and his co-workers sit front-row.....inside the firestation.

"Yeah, this is like our second home.........weekend's are kind of cool because we can watch the games together and just try to make it as comfortable as possible."

But they can't get too comfortable.  The emergency calls don't stop when the game is on, and Fillman says Lubbock's safety is priority, no matter who's playing.

"First thing you go 'Oh man' but then you know you have something you have to do.  Somebody at that time isn't as interested in the game as you are and they have problem you need to take care of so you go take care of it and you can always hear it on the news at the end of the day if you miss everything."

Their TiVO helped too with the few calls they had during the game against the Cowboys.  But some of the guys thought of everything...so even when they leave the station, their Tech pride is still shown all over their truck.

"We get lots of guns up and people honking as we go by and we try to give it back to them."

"We're as enthused about the Raiders as anyone in the city of Lubbock would be.  You'd have to be pretty much inhuman if you weren't at this stage of the game."
