A local school raises more than a thousand dollars to help the family of one of their teachers, who recently became victims of a house fire. Brenda Bass has been teaching at Frenship's Terra Vista Middle School for the past two years. Three weeks ago, a faulty switch on her stove started a fire in her house. Four pets were killed and most of their belongings were destroyed. The Bass family has moved into a rental house as they start re-building their home, and they say they couldn't do it without all the help from Brenda's co-workers and students at Terra Vista.

Brenda Bass says, "The teachers took up a donation and in three days they brought us a check $975 and then the kids [students] decided they wanted to do something."

7th Grader Josh Gomez says, "During each period at lunch we would go down there with a bucket that said 'pack the pantry' on the front and that's where people put their money that they wanted to donate, mostly spare change."  Fellow student Brianna Cruz added, "We're a family and just so happy to help her out."

The school donated about $1200 to the Bass family.
