A Lubbock man is charged with capital murder in a 5 year old murder case and Lubbock Police say new information about the weapon used in the crime led them right to the suspect.
70-year-old Hulen Benson was murdered in his home back in 2003.
Now, a Lubbock County Grand Jury has indicted 26-year-old Johnny Taylor for capital murder in the case.
Taylor is already in jail for aggravated assault in another case.
On December 4th, 2003, witnesses say a man wearing a bandana over his face walked into Benson's home, threatened him with a gun and killed him.
Autopsy reports show Benson suffered a puncture wound to the mouth and throat area.
"The one piece of information that did play a key role is that Detectives were able to identify the type of weapon used in the crime and that is one of the things that led them to this particular suspect and led them to more information which allowed them to obtain this indictment," Capt. Greg Stevens with the Lubbock Police Department says.
Taylor could face the death penalty if convicted in this case.
